As a Bellingham wedding photographer, I know that not many couples opt to get married in a church these days as the big thing nowadays is to hold your ceremony outdoors. For Emily and Michael, the core of who they were as people was their Catholic faith, so it wasn’t surprising for the couple to have their ceremony at the same spot where Michael proposed to Emily- Sacred Heart Church in Bellingham, WA.
Emily and Michael both attended Western Washington University. They didn’t have any classes together but met at the Newman Center on campus- a place where students can connect with their Catholic community in college. I am also a WWU graduate, so I was excited to photograph some of my fellow alumni for their wedding.
Pre-wedding photos were taken at scenic Boulevard Park on Bellingham Bay in addition to the church itself. The reception was held in the church hall where glimmers of burgundy, red and gold were the order of the day. It was a privilege to witness this couple’s dedication to their faith and the love they had for one another throughout their touching church ceremony.
