I’m not sure what percentage of couples who meet at weddings actually end up getting married to each other. I’m thinking it can’t be more than 5 % right? Sara and Steven were one of those lucky ones who ended up meeting at a mutual friend’s wedding.
Relationship in a Nutshell
The span of their relationship, however, was almost 7 years in the making. After meeting at the wedding, they became good friends. Both were students at Western Washington University. They got their degrees and then Steven left for a couple of years to teach English in Colombia. They continued their friendship despite the distance. When Steven returned to the states, the couple started dating. About three and a half years later, Steven proposed. He took her on a hike up to the Oyster Dome in Bellingham, WA and then in the evening headed to Locust Beach where he asked Sarah to marry him. This beach had special meaning to them both because it was the first place the two of them had confessed to liking each other as more than friends. So romantic!
Multiple Wedding Locations
On their wedding day, we did a bunch of portraits and group photos at Scenic Beach State Park in Seabeck, WA. This state park (which you need a Discover Pass to enter by the way), encompasses 121 acres along the Hood Canal. With the beach, canal and Mount Olympus in the background, you cannot beat the scenery.
It’s not unusual for brides and grooms to have a few different locations for photos. Their ceremony and reception were held on a family member’s property in Silverdale.
Sara’s color scheme embraced a variety of different colors, from terracotta, maroon, taupe, rusty orange to forest green and more. Each bridesmaid wore a different dress in the style of her choosing, using the color scheme Sara had put in place. I loved it! I’m sure the bridesmaids also loved being able to pick a dress style and color which suited them and know they had a dress they could wear again and again. Also, check out the groomsmen’s subdued floral ties; also, in keeping with the vast array of colors Sara had chosen.
The white wedding cake adorned with colorful dried flowers provided the perfect touch. Nothing beats the colors, hues and shades one finds in nature, so I truly did appreciate Sara’s vision for her wedding.
Fun Fact
It was such a fun, beautiful day and my husband was kind enough to be my photography assistant, which added to the enjoyment. And finally, a fun fact, Sara’s older sister is married to Steven’s best friend. I’m sure the odds of this happening aren’t high either but then again Sara and Steven seem to have no problem beating the odds when it comes to love. Congrats again to you both!
